Product Design, Development, and Validation is exhilarating. I love to design for human interaction while staying grounded in manufacturability. Solving problems is fun and I enjoy anticipating future errors and eliminating them before they even come up.

Here is my approach:

• Have a quick planning session and lay out what needs to be accomplished, not how we think it should be done

• Make the easiest thing that allows us to test our assumptions

• Iterate in stages of functionality

• Don't re-invent everything all at once. Start with reliable building blocks

• Seek feedback frequently and from the people who will use it

Communication is key, and not everyone is good at it. I've developed my skills in presenting, public speaking, written communications, and visual communications. These skills have enabled me to communicate complex ideas in an easy-to-understand way. They have allowed me to win pitch competitions, write grants, and direct teams. Different methods are best for each situation.

Here are the steps I take to get my points across:

• Understand the target audience

• Learn the task's success criteria

• Build the communication off of the criteria and conventions

• Talk to people like they are people

• Get the audience to root for us and/or our project

• (Have someone else spell check)

Here is how I work in teams:

• Define the outcome and get buy-in

• Learn the strengths of my teammates and how they communicate

• Reliably do my part and incorporate the experience of others

• Set up my teammates for extreme success

If you aren't leveraging the skills and knowledge of the people around you, you are doing something wrong. I believe that we can learn something from everyone; similarly, an effective leader's job is to set up their team for extreme success. Building teams and working with them is awesome, and allows us to do so much more than we could ever think to do on our own.

Here is a taste of my work

This senior project (turned start-up) lets you feel like you're in a front-row seat of a concert - minus the hearing damage. It also enables the deaf and hard of hearing to fully experience the wide range of music! It has been such a fantastic project to work on with a great team and phenomenal users.

Kalogon's Booster

I enjoyed my time at my first startup and learned to do so much! I was the lead for a new product line and headed its design, development, and user testing. This MedTec controller solves several issues with single-cell air floatation cushions. It monitors and adjusts internal pressure to increase circulation and prevent pressure injuries. It is now on the market helping people and saving lives!

Securing Startup Funds

Startups are always in need of funds. I had the opportunity to test my skills against the competition and created a repeatable process for future success. I worked with the CEO to develop Kalogon's company pitch for both VC groups and major pitch competitions. In this funding effort, I also worked with former Air Force generals to spearhead multiple grant-writing efforts that resulted in the company receiving $1.25M in awarded grants.
